Purse snatcher knocks down 89-year-old woman, breaks her glasses
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
An 89-year-old woman had her purse stolen in front of her home in southeast Portland.
Portland police said the victim had just returned home from the store and pulled in her driveway when another car parked in front of her mailbox.
The victim told police a woman got out of the backseat of the orange station wagon. The 89-year-old told the other woman she couldn't park in front of the mailboxes.
"When the woman got out I said, ‘You can't park there. It's a fire lane.' And then I turned around to get the groceries out and that's when she grabbed my purse," said Marge, who didn't want FOX 12 to use her full name.
At that point, police said the woman approached the victim and grabbed her purse. In the struggle, the victim was thrown to the ground.
Police said she suffered injuries to her face, hand and leg and was taken to a Portland hospital. Her glasses were also broken during the struggle.
Her purse contained a small amount of cash, credit and debit cards, along with other IDs and items.
The suspect is described as a white woman in her 30s, standing 5'7" with a medium build. She was in the backseat of an orange station wagon that appeared to be from the 1970s.
"I hope she gets caught and gets a good, heavy sentence," said Marge. "And maybe when she gets in jail somebody in there will beat the daylights out of her."
