An air ambulance landed safely at the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport after apparent electrical problems forced it to make an emergency landing Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.
The Native American Air Ambulance was transporting a sick child when pilots radioed they could smell smoke.
The patient and crew were reported safe. There was no visible damage to the aircraft.
It was the second incident at the airport Thursday afternoon.
About 1 1/2 hours earlier, Mesa fire officials confirmed a passenger on an Allegiant plane to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport died in flight. The flight crew declared a medical emergency and landed at the airport.
