MIDDLEBURY, CT (WFSB) -
A Waterbury woman is accused of stealing checkbooks, money and debit cards from an elderly couple in Middlebury Tuesday afternoon while her 12-year-old son shoveled their driveway.
An unidentified couple that lives on Joy Road was approached by a 12-year-old boy about shoveling their driveway, which was covered in snow.
The couple agreed and the parents of the boy waited inside their home while he shoveled.
After he completed shoveling, the family left. However, the couple noticed they were missing checkbooks, two debit cards and more than $1,000.
After interviewing the boy and his father in Naugatuck, police determined that neither of them were guilty of any crimes. Officers tracked the boy's mother, 48-year-old Edna Brewer, in Waterbury during the middle of the storm.
Brewer was arrested and charged with two counts of theft of a credit card as well as fourth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit illegal use of a credit card and conspiracy to commit identity theft.
Brewer was released on $10,000 bond and will be arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court on Dec. 23.
