TUSD vote unanimous, Wrightstown sold to private developer

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson Unified School District Governing Board voted to sell one of its closed schools to a private developer.

Right now the Wrightstown Elementary School campus stands empty, but it could soon be a community of homes.  The developer plans to build single-family one-story homes on the land.

The price tag is $1.6 million, but before construction can start the sale has to be approved by the city, rezoning the land for residential use.

In 2012 a developer of high density rental homes was interested in the land, but the city would not rezone it because of neighborhood concerns.

TUSD closed Wrightstown in 2010 to save money.
