Arizona high court to take up political giving case
PHOENIX (AP) -
The Arizona Supreme Court is set to decide whether to hear an appeal of a ruling that put new higher limits on campaign contributions on hold.
The Arizona Citizens Clean Election Commission is urging the state's high court to uphold last month's appeals court ruling blocking a law passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature. Senate President Andy Biggs and House Speaker Andy Tobin want the ruling overturned.
The appeals court ruled the new law's higher campaign contribution limits conflict with the voter-approved law creating the commission and must be blocked.
The Supreme Court is meeting Tuesday and has several options. Justices could leave the appeals court ruling in place while they consider the case, decline to hear it or overturn the ruling outright.
