A 40-year-old Casa Grande man was arrested Sunday night in connection with the stabbing of another man and the kidnapping of his 6-year-old nephew.
Angelo Martinez was arrested after family members told police he stabbed his mother's 55-year-old boyfriend about 6 p.m., said Thomas Anderson of the Casa Grande Police Department.
Martinez was reportedly involved in an earlier confrontation, and the mother's boyfriend was trying to calm him down when Martinez stabbed him in the torso, Anderson said.
Martinez fled with his nephew into the nearby desert. Officers found the boy hiding under a tree. He was not hurt and was returned to his family, Anderson said.
A knife believed to be used in the stabbing was found in the desert, and officers arrested Martinez about 10:30 p.m. trying to hide in a nearby neighborhood, Anderson said.
The victim was taken to a Phoenix-area hospital, where he was treated and released, Anderson said.
Martinez was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping, child abuse and criminal damage.
