2 charged with DUI with kids in carPosted: Updated:
Vernon police said they arrested two drivers for driving under the influence with children in the car over the weekend.
On Friday police said they received a call from a concerned citizen reporting an erratic driver on Talcottville Road. The citizen followed the vehicle as it pulled into the Countrywood Apartments and police were able to locate the vehicle.
The driver, Kwado Kwake, 26, of the Bronx, was given a field sobriety test, which he failed. Police said two children, ages 4 and 5, were also in the vehicle.
He was arrested for driving under the influence, driving without a licence and risk of injury to a minor. He posted a $2,000 bond and was given a court date of Nov. 19.
The next night Vernon police said they saw a car driving erratically on Route 30 just after 9 p.m. The vehicle was stopped on South Street near Route 30, and the driver, Robert Apted, of Vernon, failed a field sobriety test.
Police said Apted was driving with an infant in the unregistered car.
He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, risk of injury to a minor and operating an unregistered vehicle.
He posted $500 bond and was also given a court date of Nov. 19.
