It's been a staple in the funny pages for decades, and now a permanent memorial was dedicated in Scottsdale.

Fans of the Family Circus comic strip showed up for the recent unveiling of a nine-foot statue of creator Bil Keane.

The statute is called Giddy-Up Daddy and depicts Keane playing with the children of the comic strip, who were inspired by his own five children.

In 1960, Keane started working on the comic from his home in Paradise Valley.

The statue is located at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park in Scottsdale.
