Press Release regarding missing person found in S.U.V.Posted: Updated:
Released by the Smith County Sheriff's Office:
At approximately 10:45 am this morning, November 9, 2013, the body of Elizabeth Hamilton was located in the city of Lindale near the intersection of Ballard Rd. and US 69 South. Miss Hamilton's body was located inside the vehicle which she had been reported to be occupying when she was last seen.
Foul play is not suspected in this apparent one vehicle automobile accident. Lindale Police Department is the primary agency on the accident investigation.
Miss Hamilton had failed to return home after leaving the residence in her mother's Cadillac SUV at 1:30 am on October 25, 2013 to go to the store for cigarettes. The Lindale Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and Smith County Sheriff's Office worked into the afternoon to extract the vehicle from a small creek on the West side of Highway 69 South near its intersection with Ballard Rd.
The Lindale Fire Department was utilized in clearing trees and underbrush around the vehicle allowing for further investigation.
Smith County Sheriff's Deputies, assisted by the Texas Department of Public Safety air wing, flew over this area yesterday. The thick underbrush would have prevented the vehicle from being spotted from the air.
Two individuals walking on the west side of Highway 69 discovered the vehicle this morning.
Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace James Meredith responded to the scene and ordered an autopsy.
Thanks to the media and other agencies that have assisted over the past two weeks in this missing person investigation.
