Prescription drug disposal program set for SaturdayPosted: Updated:
People can dispose of expired or unwanted prescription drugs in their homes at more than 90 sites across Arizona on Saturday.
The goal of the disposal effort is to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The drugs will be collected between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at law enforcement offices, stores and other sites.
Most Valley police agencies are participating in the take back. Phoenix Police Sergeant Steve Martos says agencies here in the valley have participated since 2010, and it's been very successful.
"This is an opportunity for those individuals (who have prescription drugs) to be able to dispose of the prescription medications in safe manner," said Martos
More than three tons of prescription drugs were collected at 90 sites at a similar event in April.
