GCU drops 3-0 match at Boise StatePosted: Updated:
Grand Canyon dropped to 7-9 on the season with a 3-0 loss in a non-conference match at Boise State Monday. The Broncos improved to 8-7.
GCU senior middle blocker Lanie Muys had nine kills -- three in each set -- without an error and hit. 600 (9-0-15) and added three blocks, including one solo. Off the bench, junior outside hitter Britta Forsythe had 10 kills, including four in the second set.
The Antelopes lost by set scores of 25-15, 25-19, 25-20.
GCU came back from a first-set loss and led by four, 10-6. Boise State came back to tie it, 16-16, then took the lead for good. Down 14-7 in third, GCU cut it to two, 21-19, but were unable to get any closer.
The Antelopes were hurt by 13 Boise State service aces, five each in the first and third sets.
Mackenzie Phelps had a team-best 13 digs. Kaitlynn Ausmus had nine digs, one service ace and four second-set kills. Setters Bree Davis and Jessica Posse had 16 and 14 assists, respectively.
Shannon Dugan had three kills, five digs and one service ace in the third set.
returns home for a Western Athletic Conference contest Saturday. The Antelopes will have their Breast Cancer Awareness match 7 p.m. at Antelope Gymnasium against Utah Valley. It's the team's final home match before a five-game road trip. The Antelopes return to GCU Arena Oct. 31 with a WAC match against Chicago State.
