PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ (AP) -
Prescott Valley is no longer using speed or red-light enforcement cameras.
The Daily Courier reports that the town's contract with Scottsdale-based Redflex Traffic Systems has expired and the cameras have been deactivated.
Locations in Prescott Valley were cameras were used included Highway 69 -- the state highway linking Prescott and Interstate 17.
Town officials long had said photo enforcement encouraged safer driving.
However, town council members decided to pull the plug this year. That was after an audit disclosed that police officers overlooked speeding violations involving family members who drove the officers' private vehicles.
Interim Police Chief James Edelstein has said more officers will be deployed to write citations for speeding and red-light violations.
