PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Two multiple-vehicle crashes that injured several people closed northbound State Route 51 at Thunderbird Road on Thursday, according to an Arizona Department of Transportation spokesman.
All northbound lanes of SR 51, also known as the Piestewa Freeway, were reopened about 6:30 a.m., the spokesman said.
A two-vehicle collision and a separate three-vehicle collision both involved an undetermined number of injuries, but none appeared to be life-threatening, said an Arizona Depart of Public Safety officer.
The crash happened about 5:15 a.m. Traffic was backed up considerable and motorists could still take exits Cactus Road or Shea Boulevard and take surface past Thunderbird.
No other information was immediately available.
