A 24-year-old woman died hugging her boyfriend after a gun he was removing from his waistband discharged, Phoenix police said.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the shooting appeared to be accidental but the investigation is ongoing.
The victim is identified as Amanda Mosley.
Mosley was rushed to a local hospital, where she later died.
Thompson said the 18-year-old man removed the handgun because as they were embracing it was causing her discomfort.
The investigation will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for review.
