Hazing accusations surround Siegel girls' basketball team
MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -
Claims of students being assaulted are hanging over a Rutherford County high school. The accusations center on the girls' basketball team and the way three players were allegedly welcomed to the team.
The parents of three players on last year's Siegel High School girls basketball team have sued the school district, saying the coach's daughter, who also played for the Stars, hazed their daughters.
It was something called the "goosing game," in which one person pokes the other between the buttocks. The three girls said it "shocked, horrified and offended" them.
The parents also said the coach did not report it properly when they complained and later retaliated by reducing playing time for the oldest girl and kicking the other two off the team.
They also said administrators stalled on an investigation even though, according to the suit, the accused player admitted to "poking" the girls in the buttocks, and as a punishment sat out a game and two more as the team's captain.
The case will probably head to court sometime next year.
The district's attorney declined comment for this story but did want to remind us a law enforcement investigation did not return any criminal charges.
