La Pine litter collector finds live grenade along roadwayPosted: Updated:
A person on litter patrol in La Pine found a military type grenade on the side of the road.
The device was found just before 3 p.m. on Saturday along Burgess Road in La Pine.
The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office contacted the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad, who collected the grenade.
The bomb squad said the grenade was a military training grenade that had been re-activated and was dangerous.
It is believed the grenade had been on the side of the road for some time, and was found near open land.
Deputies are not sure how the grenade got there but don't think it was targeting any person.
Deschutes County Sheriff's Office would like to remind people to not touch or examine any device like the grenade, and to call police immediately.
