PROVIDENCE, RI (AP) -

A makeshift memorial at the site of a West Warwick nightclub fire that killed 100 people will be closed after the weekend to begin work on a memorial park.

The Station Fire Memorial Foundation has told the loved ones of those killed in the 2003 fire that they have through Sunday to remove any personal items they wish to keep.

Anything left on the site after Sunday will be removed and placed in a time capsule as part of the permanent memorial.

The land is currently open, but a fence will be put up at the site, which now is filled with handmade crosses, photographs, stuffed animals and other mementoes.

Pyrotechnics set off by the rock band Great White set fire to flammable foam on the walls on Feb. 20, 2003.
