Albany Paulies one win from GBL ChampionshipPosted: Updated:
The Albany Paulies seem to have put it all together at just the right time.
After struggling for most of the season, they've rallied to earn a spot in the Georgia Baseball League Championship.
The Paulies finished the regular season as the league's number three seed, but pulled off a semifinal upset to put themselves in Sunday's first ever league championship game.
Head coach Gilberto Aramante says it would be an honor for his team to be crowned the inaugural GBL champions.
But he also hopes it would boost the team's recognition in south Georgia with potential players.
"There's a lot of kids in town who play high school who end up going to different places, different states because they don't have the facility to play collegiate ball here in town," says Aramante. "This being the team's first year, and coming home with a victory, hopefully I can get more kids from town."
The Paulies will play the winner of the Macon Giants and Middle Georgia River Rats Sunday at 7 p.m. in Macon.
