A Toledo man was cited for reckless burning after deputies said he set off an illegal firework that landed on his girlfriend's pickup and burned it beyond repair.
Deputies and fire crews were called out to a vehicle fire on the 10500 block of Northwest Rhoda Street in Seal Rock at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Deputies had also received several complaints about fireworks in the area prior to the fire.
Investigators said Sterling Morris, 38, of Toledo, set off a large, illegal and aerial firework that caused burning material to land on the canopy of a white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
The truck belonged to his girlfriend, according to deputies. It caught on fire and was destroyed.
Reckless burning is a class A misdemeanor. The State Fire Marshal's Office also assisted with this investigation.
