Fire destroys Somers homePosted: Updated:
Fire crews are still on scene after an early morning blaze destroyed a home in Somers.
The fire, which broke out in a home on Bilton Street near the Massachusetts border, had the home fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived.
Crews from Stafford, West Stafford, Ellington and East Longmeadow, MA, assisted Somers firefighters with getting the fire under control.
Officials said they also had to deal with live wires down near the scene, which hindered their ability to fight the fire at first.
"The fire was so well involved at the time, we probably wouldn't be able to save much," Somers Fire Chief Gary Schiessl said.
There was one person in the home at the time of the fire, but they were able to escape safely, officials said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
