Extreme heat caused power lines to fall on Route 9 in Old Saybrook on Thursday afternoon.
The highway between Exits 2 and 3 was closed from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Route 9 has since been reopened.
The incident was reported around 1:30 p.m., but the debris was quickly cleared from the area.
Connecticut Light & Power is on sight with 13 crews, and the DOT is assisting with traffic control. There are still 32 customers without power, according to the CL&P website.
