Weather conditions have forced an earlier than expected closure of a portion of Interstate 17 south of Camp Verde.
The Arizona Department of Transportation is constructing a climbing lane.
Traffic on northbound I-17 is stopped at the State Route 169 junction and southbound I-17 traffic will be stopped at General Crook Trail until the area is reopened.
A long closure is not anticipated, ADOT said.
The overnight closure that was planned between midnight and 3 a.m. on Wednesday has been canceled.
