A Gaston County man is being held on a million-dollar bond after police say he repeatedly sexually assaulted a young girl in a city park.
According to the Gastonia Police Department, 51-year-old David Glenn Scott, of Bessemer City, was charged on Monday with two counts of sexual offense with a child and six counts of indecent liberties with a child.
"Scott knew the girl from church, and was trusted," Sgt. Weaver said. "He was cooperative with the investigation."
According to police, Scott assaulted the young girl at the Bradley Center and Park along Modena Street from February until June 20. The incidents reportedly took place at different times of the day, and at least some of them occurred on the playground.
Police say Scott was arrested after the 9-year-old's mother reported her daughter was sexually assaulted.
Officers say they don't know of any other potential victims, but say Scott had exposure to a lot of different children. They say parents who know Scott should talk to their children and call police if necessary.
According to police, Scott does not have a criminal history. He did not work with the church or hold a position with the church.
They say none of the alleged sexual assaults occurred during church outings.
Scott had a hearing on Tuesday. His bond was not reduced and he will be back in court on July 25.
