A passenger in a car that nearly collided with another vehicle was shot dead after an exchange of words and short pursuit, Phoenix police said.
The victim's friends didn't realize he was shot at first, but when they saw he had been wounded, they rushed him to the hospital.
Ramiro Valerio, 23, died of gunshot wounds, said Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.
Shortly before midnight Friday, the vehicle Valerio was in, a Chevrolet Tahoe, was traveling eastbound on the access road to Indian School Road from 35th Avenue.
As the Tahoe merged onto Indian School, it almost collided with a green car, which was traveling eastbound on Indian School Road, Thompson said.
Just east of 31st Avenue, the green car turned north into the neighborhood. As it did so, one of the occupants in that car fired numerous shots at the Tahoe, Thompson said.
