Gulf Shores, Orange Beach post double red flags, close waters; beaches remain open

Posted: Updated:
GULF SHORES, AL (WSFA) -

Beach-goers need to be aware of dangerous conditions that have forced closures of waters in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

The danger is coming from rip currents in the Gulf that have forced several rescues already.

The presence of double red flags indicates that extremely hazardous conditions are present and all waters are closed to the public.

Both cities have posted double red flags on all beaches within their jurisdictions.

Officials from both cities say their beaches remain open, but people should stay out of the water.

Both cities have fireworks displays planned for Thursday evening, and those events will go on as scheduled.
