Cowboy artist Bill Owen dies in Peach SpringsPosted: Updated:
Authorities in northern Arizona say a well-known cowboy artist has died.
Coconino County Sheriff's officials say 71-year-old John William Owen, of Kirkland, died while photographing cowboys.
They say Owen was in Peach Springs on Saturday while cowboys were conducting ranching activities at Camp 16 off of Indian Route 18.
Owen had been at Camp 16 since June 14 to take pictures of ranch hands while they conducted their day-to-day activities and incorporate the images into his artwork.
Ranch hands told sheriff's investigators that Owen was disassembling a portable tepee when he collapsed.
Several ranch hands administered CPR until medical personnel from Peach Springs arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Owen's body was transported to the county Medical Examiner's Office in Flagstaff to determine the cause of death.
