Corbin Named NL Pitcher of the Month

Posted: Updated:

For the first time since 2008, an Arizona Diamondbacks is National League Pitcher of the Month.  Patrick Corbin wins the honor after going 5-0.

The 22 year old went undefeated with a 1.53 ERA in May, including his first ever complete game.  He led the NL in ERA during May and threw his first compete game, with 10 strikeouts on May 20th at the Rockies.

Opponents are hitting just .180 off Corbin, second best in the big leagues.  The lefty is 9-0 and tied for the best start in club history.  Brandon Webb had the same start in 2008.  Corbin also became the second pitcher since 1916 to have 9 straight starts of 6 innings pitched and 2 runs allowed.  The other pitcher to do so is Ubaldo Jiminez

Corbin is the fifth D-backs pitcher to earn Pitcher of the Month accolades (10th time), joining Randy Johnson (4x, July 1999, April 2000, April 2002, Sept. 2002), Curt Schilling (3x, May 2001, May 2002, July 2002), Brandon Webb (March/April 2008)
