Darton loses to GPC, falls out of top 2 in GCAA Tournament

Posted: Updated:

The Darton baseball team was cruising for much of the season, but have fallen on hard times recently.

The team walked off for their first victory in four games Saturday, but still needed another win Tuesday to stay in the hunt for a top 2 seed in the GCAA tournament.

The Cavs were hosting Georgia Perimeter at Cavalier Field Tuesday.

In the third, the Jaguars broke out the runs.

A leadoff triple to the right field corner by Russell Melton got the inning started. Two batters later, Pierce Ressmeyer drove Melton home with a single to make it 1-0 GPC.

Later in the inning, Matt Taylor doubled with the bases loaded to make it 3-0.

Down 5-2 in the 9th, Darton would plate two more runs, but fell short of a comeback, 5-4.

The loss will keep the Cavaliers out of a top two seed in next week's GCAA Tournament.

The Cavs close out the regular season at GPC this weekend.
