A 21-year-old man is facing drug charges after a deputy found marijuana cigarettes in what appeared to be a soda can.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said a K9 deputy stopped the man for speeding and a lane change violation on east Interstate 40.

YCSO said the deputy could smell marijuana in the vehicle driven by Malek Alotaibi from Montebello, CA.

Alotaibi admitted having pot, according to YCSO, and he claimed he applied for a medical marijuana card in California but hadn't received it yet.

The deputy found drugs in a can designed with a sealed compartment. Drugs were also found inside a gray bag, a bottle labeled "Medical Cannabis"

Malek claimed he bought the marijuana and hashish, a form of concentrated cannabis, at a dispensary in California. He said he didn't know hashish is considered a narcotic drug in Arizona.

He was booked on charges including possession of narcotic drugs, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He's being held on a $10,000 bond.
