A suspect has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman last month at a Murfreesboro home where a day earlier a man had committed suicide.

Kenny Hughes, 30, faces a charge of second degree homicide in the shooting death of 30-year-old Tangeneika Wardlow at a Gold Valley Drive home April 28.

Hughes was arrested in Sharkey County, MS, and will be transported to Rutherford County.

Police said Wardlow was found at the home with a gunshot wound. She was taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center, where she died.

"We were able to determine there had been foul play and a homicide had occurred," said Murfreesboro Police spokesman Sgt. Kyle Evans.

Only one day prior, police say 33-year-old Reginald Hughes committed suicide by shooting himself in the head at the same residence.

"The fact that it happened in my own neighborhood, I was kind of surprised of that - that it happened here," said neighbor John Rawls.

Wardlow had two children who were home at the time of the suicide and the murder. They were placed in the custody of the Department of Children's Services.
