Bridgeport cop charged in child custody disputePosted: Updated:
State troopers have arrested a Bridgeport police sergeant who accused state police of kidnapping his 2-year-old grandson during a custody dispute.
Sgt. John Devone was charged Monday with interfering with police and custodial interference for allegedly trying to prevent authorities from returning the boy to his mother in Georgia. He's to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court April 4.
Troopers say Devone and his family illegally hid the child from authorities after a Georgia judge ordered the child returned to his mother. Devone's son also was arrested.
Devone says the mother abandoned the boy with his family and lied to the Georgia judge. He says state troopers kidnapped the boy from a relative's home two weeks ago.
The boy is with his mother in Georgia, while Devone is on paid leave.
