NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

The ground breaking for the first phase of New Haven's Downtown Crossing development is Friday.

Route 34 will be removed, which means the Hill neighborhood will once again be connected to downtown New Haven.

Streets will be reconnected, and new housing and retail space is planned.

City leaders said this could be a big boost for New Haven's economy.
