A bullet fired by a Coolidge police officer at a suspect's vehicle Saturday night ricocheted off a tire rim and struck a second police officer in the cheek, authorities said.

The injured officer, who was not named, was treated and released at a local hospital.

The incident occurred at the end of a car chase, Pinal County sheriff's deputies said.

The suspect, identified as Korrin Harmon, 34, of Florence, was unarmed.

A Coolidge police officer said he saw Harmon speeding on Arizona Boulevard north of Gibson Avenue at about 8:20 p.m.  Harmon stopped at a service station, PCSO said.

As the officer was about to approach the driver, the vehicle sped off through a field. A pursuit began until the Harmon stopped his vehicle and dropped off three passengers in the area of Congress and Washington Avenue, deputies said.

The original officer stopped and detained the three passengers but Harmon accelerated and headed westbound, sheriff's investigators said.

Other officers were able to locate the vehicle a short distance away. As the vehicle drove toward the officers' vehicles, Harmon turned and struck a residential gas meter and a 6' tall chain link fence.

One of the Coolidge officers fired one round into the rear tire of the suspect vehicle in an attempt to keep it from fleeing again, PCSO said. The bullet ricocheted after striking the rim of the tire and hit one of the other officers in the cheek. He was treated and released at a local hospital.

Harmon was taken into custody without further incident.

Sheriff's deputies said Harmon admitted he is on parole. He said he has always run from the police since he was 15, deputies said.

Harmon has a past history of drug offenses, felony flight and theft.

Harmon is being booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for numerous counts of aggravated assault and endangerment.
