The American Red Cross has opened shelters at the East Lyme Middle School, locate a 37 Society Rd., and Stonington High School, 176 S. Broad St.
The town of Ledyard will also open Ledyard High and Middle schools from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday for warming, charging and showers.
People seeking shelter are being asked to bring the following items with them to "make their visit more comfortable:"
- Pillows, blankets, sleeping bags, or air mattresses
- A change of clothing
- Personal hygiene supplies
- A book, a game that can be played quietly or a favorite toy for children
- Prescription medications
"Red Cross workers are staffing shelters and welcoming people who have been displaced by the blizzard," said American Red Cross spokesperson Paul Shipman. "Travel restrictions have been lifted in Connecticut and residents who can safely travel are able to do so."
The Stonington High School shelter is pet friendly and accepts animals that are crated or leashed.
