Golden Apple Award winner: Alice WrightPosted: Updated:
Alice Wright used to be an accountant. Then, she was a stay at home mom. When her son started school she found a new calling.
"I saw the wonderful impact teachers had on him, and I just wanted to be able to touch children that way," she said.
Parent with kids in her Kindergarten class at Central Park Elementary say she's achieved that goal.
"Just an awesome teacher. The kids love her. She's very hands on with her kids. They come home and talk about Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Wright," said one mother.
Wright tries to keep her students active and engaged.
"I do everything in small groups. Small group reading, small group math, and we do lots of centers and things like that where I'm putting manipulatives and games and things like that in the kids hands," said Wright.
Wright won the weekly Golden Apple Award for teaching excellence. The award comes with a $500 prize from the sponsor, The Kirby Kelly Law Firm.
