Police investigating reported assault during robbery attempt in Bristol

Bristol police are investigating after a man said he was assaulted during a robbery attempt early Tuesday morning.

Police said the victim was walking home from a friend's house along Missal Avenue around 2 a.m. when a group of about six men approached him. 

The victim told police three of the men attacked him, attempted to get money from him and one of them used an object to inflict lacerations to his face.

Police said the victim was able to fight back and break free of his attackers and was able to locate  an officer a short distance away in the Sunoco parking lot on Farmington Avenue.

Police searched the area, but could not locate any of the suspects.

The victim was taken to Bristol Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
