Tree trimmer rescued in Phoenix
PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A tree trimmer was rescued after getting trapped in the skirt of dead palm fronds, Phoenix fire authorities said.
The worker escaped injury when about one-fourth of the skirt fell on top of him, firefighters said.
The safety straps the man was using saved his life, according to fire crews.
The worker was able to free himself and tear away most of the remaining dead fronds. A large portion of the fronds fell, which prompted six firefighters below to quickly jump to safety.
When the man reached the ground safely, he told firefighters he wanted to go back up to finish the job. About 75 percent of dead fronds remained hanging in place at the site at in the 1300 block of North 31st Street. .
