KINGMAN, AZ (CBS5) -
Mohave County sheriff's deputies arrested a 70-year-old Kingman man Tuesday on suspicion of second-degree murder in the shooting death of his neighbor.
James Clifton Craft was arrested shortly after he told deputies he shot Matthew James Paulson, 27, about 10 p.m. at a Kingman triplex, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said they found Paulson's body inside his apartment unit and he was declared dead at the scene. A .22-caliber semi-automatic handgun was confiscated, according to the sheriff's office.
Paulson had become agitated and started yelling at Craft outside their joint front yards before a neighbor calmed them down, deputies said.
Paulson later went to the front steps of Craft's apartment and began yelling again at Craft, who was inside his apartment at the front door, deputies said. The neighbor told deputies that Paulson had no weapons and did not assault Craft before he heard one popping noise and saw Paulson grab his torso and walk back into his apartment.
Deputies said the case was still under investigation and that autopsy results are pending.
