Meriden man killed in Waterbury crashPosted: Updated:
A 32-year-old man was killed and two other men were seriously injured after their vehicle slammed into a utility pole and rolled over several times in Waterbury.
According to police, the SUV was traveling south on Meadow Street near Grand Street when it somehow lost control and crashed.
Gregorio Mendoza of Meriden, who was in the back seat, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Driver Jonas Rodela, 29, of Waterbury and front seat passenger Jose Concepcion-Mendoza, 38, of Meriden were brought to St. Mary's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said both men are in serious condition at the hospital.
Police said that the crash remains under investigation, but it appears that excessive speed was the primary contributing factor in the cause of the crash.
Rodela is expected to face charges after he is released from the hospital, police said.
