A former Mesa High School student was arrested on suspicion of assaulting four ROTC students on the campus early Wednesday morning, police said.
Police said the suspect, Caeser Meraz, 25, told authorities after he was arrested that he assaulted the group because he "felt like getting into a fight."
The assault happened at about 6:40 a.m. Meraz was not armed and the injuries to the students were not severe, officers said.
The school resource officer was notified of the fight as he was arriving to the campus to start his work day. He immediately located and detained Meraz just off campus.
The officer decided to cite Meraz for the altercation and had him taken to his home, where he was released from custody, pending his court date, Mesa police spokesman Sgt. Tony Landato.
Later in the day, the decision was made to immediately take Meraz into custody and book him on his charges.
No other information about the incident was immediately available.
