New Britain police arrest man in connection with 2012 murderPosted: Updated:
Police arrested Wilbert Lopez Jr., 22, Monday morning after he turned himself in on an active warrant.
Lopez is charged with first-degree hindering prosecution and was held on a $200,000 court-set bond. The warrant was sealed by police and no other details are available at this time.
Investigators also have obtained an arrest warrant for Luis Velez, 24, for murder, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal use of a firearm. Velez is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges and will be arrested by warrant on Jan. 25.
The warrant for Velez has a $2 million court-set bond and has also been sealed.
The arrest of Lopez and the pending arrest of Velez stem from the murder of Michael Cruz who was shot and killed at the intersection of North Street and Clark Street in New Britain on April 13, 2012.
The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated.
