Route 97 in Pomfret reopened after tree knocks over power lines

Posted: Updated:

A section of Route 97 in Pomfret reopened late Thursday morning after a tree came down and took some power lines with it.

The road was closed between Murdock Road and Route 244 for several hours, according to state police.

Power was restored to the area after Connecticut Light & Power crews repaired the power lines. At one point, there were 164 customers or 8 percent were without power.

Officials said they believe the incident is weather-related and that strong winds in the area may have brought down the tree.
