Events planned around state to mark New YearPosted: Updated:
With the beginning of 2013 just days away, events are being planned all over Connecticut to ring in the new year.
First Night in Hartford is one event that is open to the public. It includes musicians and artists, as well as other performances on New Year's Eve.
The annual event will also feature two fireworks displays in Bushnell Park. The first show will begin at 6 p.m. and the second will happen at midnight.
First Night is an alcohol free event that welcomes visitors of all ages.
"I think it's a great idea for families especially," said Dina Grimaldi. "It's such a good way to spend your night."
Tickets for First Night cost $10 for adults and $2 for children.
Middnight on Main is another event scheduled for New Year's Eve.
The event features over 100 performances and is happening in downtown Middletown.
"We have magic, and music, and comedy, a sword-swallower," said event organizer Ed McKeon.
Musical acts include bands like The Rooks, Amy Black and Darlingside, and performances by Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem, among others.
"I think what sets this particular New Year's celebration apart, besides from the family friendliness, is the fact that it is on a beautiful, wide, classic American main street," said performer Rani Arbo, "the acts, in general, are of super, super high quality."
Middnight on Main begins at 3 p.m. Dec. 31, and goes until midnight on New Year 's Day.
Event organizers said the event will also include a rooftop fireworks show and special countdown event at the end of the evening.
