LUKEVILLE, AZ (CBS5) -
Marijuana worth an estimated $108,000 has been seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers who foiled two separate smuggling attempts in southern Arizona.
Officers assigned to the Lukeville Port referred Eric Hansen, 46, of Phoenix, for additional inspection of his vehicle when he applied for entry at the border. During the inspection, CBP officers said they discovered 76 packages of marijuana hidden throughout the vehicle.
A few hours later, Dusti Jo Hall, 42, also of Phoenix, was referred for additional inspection of her SUV. During the inspection, officers said they located 48 packages of marijuana in the spare tire and in two ice chests on the back of the vehicle.
In both cases, the drugs and vehicles were seized and Hansen and Hall were referred for prosecution.
