Phoenix nonprofit sends packages to military members overseas

The holidays are a time for gratitude but also a time for giving, and a group of mechanics is helping people in Arizona do just that for military members serving overseas.

A Phoenix nonprofit called Packages From Home sends comfort packages to deployed U.S. service members around the world.

They are collecting food and hygiene supplies at participating auto repair shops around the Valley.

"As the wars wind down, people get complacent and forget that we're still at war and soldiers still need those extra items, those comforts of care, from us," said Network of Neighborhood Auto Repair Professionals member Lenny Aupperlee. "And they look forward to it and when they find out that they get a package, you know, it really hits home that they know what they're doing over there is worthwhile."

The organization sends more than 1,000 packages to troops every month. For participating locations, visit the Packages From Home website.
