Phoenix celebrating $59 million in innovation and efficiency savings
PHOENIX (CBS5) -
The city of Phoenix is celebrating a very green accomplishment.
In less than three years, Phoenix has reached a savings level of $59.7 million.
The savings came from innovation and efficiency changes like same-day trash and recycling pickup. Those changes gave the city back $2.3 million.
"Phoenix's Innovation and Efficiency efforts are leading the way nationally," Mayor Greg Stanton said. "Saving in so many ways means we have more money to fund crucial programs like police, fire, parks, libraries and senior centers. Our programs demonstrate smart government in action."
But Stanton says Phoenix can't stop here. He has set a new goal of $100 million saved by December 2015.
