Authorities have located a 14-year-old San Tan valley girl last seen early Tuesday morning.
Pinal County Sheriff's Office spokesman Tim Gaffney said Samantha White was found wandering in a neighborhood near her home located in the 35000 block of North Richardson Drive.
Sheriff Paul Babeu said at a news briefing that someone recognized the girl from a photo and called authorities.
According to her family, she was last seen at their home making her lunch for school. Her parents left for work and her aunt left for a walk. When her aunt came back she found White's books thrown in the front yard with a note indicating she was kidnapped.
"This was what was so disturbing to us in law enforcement," Babeu said. "The note read, 'you will get her back when she gets what she deserves.'"
Family immediately called the sheriff's office who called out as many as 120 people to help in the search, both in the air and on the ground. The FBI even joined in.
Authorities spent the morning searching going door to door for White.
No word yet on what the girl was doing during the police search.
"We are looking at everything, whether she was a runaway or as the note suggested, that it was something other than that," Babeu said.
The sheriff said the girl stuck with the story that she was kidnapped by other people but authorities haven't ruled out that it's a hoax. Sheriff's authorities are still investigating the incident.
