Authorities are investigating a deadly crash in Mesa involving 18 people packed in a pickup truck. ICE said, so far, four of the people have been found to be undocumented immigrants and are in their custody.
Country Club at Baseline Road was shut down for several hours while ICE and Homeland Security investigated the fatal crash.
Police said they were trying to stop a truck that was driving erratically near Power and Southern roads on Friday morning. The truck didn't stop so they followed it and when it was near the intersection of Country Club and Baseline, the driver attempted to make a left turn, lost control and hit a pole.
The driver died at the scene.
Police said the truck was full of people and there were people in the bed of the truck covered by a tarp.
ICE said they suspect it to be a human smuggling case.
ICE said 13 people involved in the crash are still in the hospital. Once they are released, they'll be interviewed by ICE.
