Border agent fires into rock-throwing crowd near Nogales

Posted: Updated:

A U.S. Border Patrol agent fired into a crowd throwing rocks at agents investigating a suspected narcotics drop near the Arizona-Mexico border in Nogales on Wednesday night.

The U.S. Border Patrol said the agents were investigating two smugglers about 11:30 p.m. and saw them drop what appeared to be a load of narcotics on the U.S. side of the border and flee back into Mexico.

People on the Mexico side of the border began throwing rocks at the agents and ignored commands to stop. The agent then fired and appeared to strike one person.

Agents notified the Mexican government and were cooperating with an FBI-led investigation.

No other information was immediately available.
