Peoria detective shot, paralyzed on duty hits the course again
PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Just because you can't walk, doesn't mean you can't hit the golf course.
Peoria Police Detective Bill Weigt proved that on Tuesday.
Seven years ago he was paralyzed from the chest down after being shot in the line of duty.
He thought he'd never swing a golf club again. But with the help of a solo rider golf cart and a lot of convincing he's back on the greens.
"Talking about it… and getting my adrenaline up and my courage up, it's a great feeling. I'm happy I'm out here," Weigt said.
Weigt had only been with the Peoria Police Department for 19 months when he was shot. This is his first time back on the links.
"Just to be out here again; just to make you feel whole again. Out here with friends, talking smack, talking golf talk, talking about the worst call in the NFL, talking about fantasy football; and we're just having a blast. We really are. It's a blessing."
